Long manual MIG/MAG seams take skill. Over a long run the torch angle drifts, travel speed changes and the stick-out wanders, and the weld shows it. Fronius has a new answer to that, and it’s now available from Weldsafe: Fronius Velo.
What is Velo?
Velo is a velocity assistant for manual MIG/MAG welding. It doesn’t replace the welder. It guides the torch, so the welder keeps a constant travel speed and contact tip-to-work distance along the whole seam. The result is even heat input and a consistent weld, whether it’s laid by a time-served welder or someone newer to the trade.
Why it’s worth a look
- Better welds, sooner: less-experienced welders get to a good standard faster.
- Less strain: experienced welders have an easier time on long runs.
- Faster: Fronius says Velo’s guidance can up to double welding speed compared with conventional manual MIG/MAG welding.
- Consistent quality: steady speed and stick-out mean uniform heat input from start to finish.
- Quick set-up: SyNext keeps parameter setting simple.

Velo works with the Fronius Standard, LSC, Pulse, PMC and CMT processes, on steel and stainless steel.
What you need
A Velo system is built around a Fronius TPS/i (320 A and above) or iWave Multiprocess power source. To that you add the OPT/i Velo software option, the WF 25i Velo wire feeder and a torch adapter to suit your torch.
Already have a TPS/i or iWave? Velo can be retrofitted to many existing Fronius systems. Send us the model and serial number and we’ll check whether yours can be upgraded.

Every Velo set-up depends on your power source, torch, wire and the work you do, so we put each package together with you, working with Fronius UK where needed.
